India lived up the party at Mistura Food Fair

The ninth edition of the Mistura Food Fair, Lima’s annual food festival and Latin America’s largest food fair featuring traditional gastronomy from Peru was held from 2nd to

11th September 2016. India was one of the countries of honour at the Food Fair this year and showcased its unique cuisines with exotic flavors, special aromas and colorful presentation.  The visitors at the fair got the opportunity to taste the delicious and traditional dishes from different Indian regions, brought by Massala restaurant, and prepared by Chef Jitender Singh.

On occasion of the Mistura Food Fair, Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Agency PromPeru and Commercial Office of Peru Abroad(in New Delhi) invited Vicky Ratnani, a celebrity chef and a renowned TV show host alongwith the Gourmand World cook book Award winner Rashmi Uday Singh from India to learn about the quintessence of Peruvian Cuisines.

The duo with a real thirst to know more about the gastronomy of the country visited the top three restaurants of Lima, Central Restaurant, Maido and Astrid & Gaston, that have brought pride to the Peruvian Cuisine and boosted it further all across the globe. Both of them met Virgilio Martinez, Gaston Acurio, Mitsuharu Tsumura and James Beckemeyer the top Peruvian chefs promoting the spread of Peruvian cuisine in the world.

Vicky and Rashmi took part in the Cultural Tour hosted by Promperu. As part of the itinerary, they visited the Historical Centre of Lima, which was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1988 and a “Cultural Patrimony of Humanity” in 1996. They visited Barranco, a city with fine streets and small colonial squares, where one can still sense the antique spirit of Lima and Miraflores famous for having the most bohemian and relaxing nightlife of Lima.

Vicky Ratnani participated in the specialised tour to Ica, focussed onPeruvian Pisco, the elixir of thePeruvians. During the tour he visited Pisco producing companies like  Santiago Queirolo and artisan Pisco producers as CholoMatíasand El Carmelo. The tour included a visit to Ballestas Islands, a group of small islands near the town of Paracas.  Their tour of the enchanting country came to an end with the visit to The Sacred Valley  famous for the beautiful Inca ruins and Machu Picchu, the Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains  in Cusco.

Both India and Peru are hoping to increase the bilateral trade ties between the two countries by signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The FTA will just not be for goods and services, it will be a comprehensive one that will have a holistic impact with even movement of people eased and will focus on trade, investment, mining, energy besides IT and pharma sectors which will aim to increase the bilateral trade between both the countries.
